People in the slum of Kawangware, Nairobi, Kenya lack access to toilets and showers. They also use kerosene and charcoal cookstoves that present fire hazards and create indoor air pollution. This project will provide toilets and generate methane from human waste. The methane will be used to heat water for showers and to cook food in a safe community kitchen. It will change lives by increasing dignity, reducing disease and generating income through access fees and selling food.

With community participation in design and construction,, we will construct an ablution block and community kitchen, train the community in system operation and maintenance, and turn it over to the community for use and income generation. |
The project will provide income-generating activities for 100 people, allowing them to provide for their families, and to save additional funds for further community improvements. |
We are delighted to have an opportunity to contribute the land needed for developing the ablution block and community kitchen. It will make lives better for everyone in our community.
