On GlobalGiving, project ordering is dynamic. The goal is to help your projects gain visibility, which we hope will translate into more donors viewing and donating to your projects. We encourage you to find creative ways keep your project high on the list. We will be circulating best practices describing how other project leaders are doing this, and creating new tools to support your efforts.
Below, you'll find more detail on each of the project ordering factors. In brief, generating donations and updating your projects will keep your projects higher on the lists, better ensuring that they are amongst the first that a potential donor encounters.
Project Funding Level/Donations
This is the key determinant and primary factor in the project ranking system. The funding level/donation factor is based on three variables, which are considered collectively:
i) Total number of individual donations made to a project
ii) Amount of money donated to a project; and
iii) Funding already received through GlobalGiving, as a percentage of project need/budget.
Again, we encourage you to promote your projects to your friends, supporters, and networks so that your funding levels and donations will increase. GlobalGiving also offers tools to help you promote your project. To learn more, check Tools from GlobalGiving.
Updated Projects
Updating a project means posting progress reports and/or adding new photos. You can do this by emailing your reports and photos to .
Project Leaders can update their own projects. Updated projects will move up in the rankings, with the most recently updated appearing highest. Projects will be marked with a special "updated" icon to draw attention, and will remain on the updated list for 30 days.
Progress reports that focus on awards received, project progress, and successes are among things that donors like to learn in progress reports. Demonstrating accountability through regular communications such as progress reports has been known to motivate donors to give again and again. For ideas and examples of great progress reports, check out our section Progress Reports and Photos: Creating a Great Donor Experience.
New Projects
New projects will be placed near the top of the project lists for the first 30 days they are on the site, marked with a "new" icon. After the initial 30 days, they will be considered against all projects according to Project Funding Level/Donation. The first 30 days are critical for you to start mobilizing support and helping your projects remain high on the list.
