Frequently Asked Questions
General
-
What is GlobalGiving?
- Through its website, GlobalGiving.com connects individual and institutional donors directly to social, environmental, and economic development projects.
- Potential donors can browse and select from a wide offering of projects, organized by geography or by themes such as health care, the environment, and education. GlobalGiving promotes these projects through a number of channels, including media outreach, corporate and employee giving programs, and direct consumer marketing partnerships.
-
I need financial assistance, can you help me?
- No. Unlike a traditional foundation, GlobalGiving does not directly offer grants or support.
-
My project needs materials; can you donate items (computers, school supplies, etc.)?
- No. Unfortunately we are not able to process in-kind donations at this time.
Posting a Project
-
How do I post a project on GlobalGiving?
- Click here to view basic eligibility requirements for listing a project on our site.
-
Is there a fee for posting a project on GlobalGiving?
- No. GlobalGiving takes a 15% fee from each donation to cover the costs of aggregating and vetting projects and presenting them on the website. There is also an additional fee of 2.75% that covers the cost of processing credit card transactions and transferring funds overseas. Donations received via check or wire will not be charged a processing fee. Our fee is one of the lowest available in international philanthropy.
-
How long does it take to post a project?
- After you have contacted your referral source, they must submit a referral form. Once the form is submitted, you will be notified immediately and asked to submit your Due Diligence paperwork. Once it is approved (1-2 weeks later), you are ready to post your project!
-
I completed the Expression of Interest Form, now what?
- After you submit the form, GlobalGiving will contact you about the next Open Access Challenge. Challenges are scheduled two times per year, so you may have to wait a while before you are able to participate. In the meantime, you can prepare your Due Diligence. Having this ready in advance will fast-track you through the application process. Please see Due Diligence requirements here.
-
Can I post more than one project at a time?
- Yes! Once your due diligence has been approved, you can post as many projects as you like, provided you are willing to write updates for each one at least four times a year.
-
Can GlobalGiving remove my project once it has been posted?
- Yes, projects can be removed from GlobalGiving’s site if they do not comply with GlobalGiving’s reporting requirements, which is to provide an update every 3 months. Those organizations that do not comply with this will be first warned and subsequently removed from the site.
Disbursements
-
Once I have posted a project how do I receive the donations? When?
- During the Due Diligence process Project Leaders are asked to complete a Disbursement Form, which requests bank information. Money transfers are made to the bank account of the organization monthly, provided at least $250 in donations have been received.
- Along with the money transfer, Project Leaders receive a Disbursement Report.
