Mission

Creating Hope International (CHI) was founded with the vision of bringing hope to victims of war, political unrest, and natural disasters through programs designed to help them rebuild their lives for a brighter tomorrow. CHI’s mission is to provide education, training, and health care to the people in the world with the greatest needs. CHI responds to community needs at the grassroots, fosters community participation, and empowers people through culturally sensitive education and training.

Programs

Creating Hope International operates programs in Afghanistan, for Afghan refugees in Pakistan, and for Tibetan refugees in India. Programs include teacher training, health education, medical services, pre-school through University education, computer training, income generating skills training, reproductive health, leadership training, health professional training, support for grassroots community-based organizations, and a magazine.

Toc Dunlap - President
Toc Dunlap BA JD is an experienced educator and teacher trainer and has worked with Afghans since 1967. She was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Herat and Charikar for 4 years and worked as administrator of refugee programs in Pakistan for 8 years. Additionally, she helped to found an alternative school in Jackson, California and was an international lawyer with Ford Motor Company for 8 years.

Sakena Yacoobi - Vice President
Sakena Yacoobi BS MPH was a Professor at D'etre University Detroit. As coordinator of the Female Education Program for the IRC in Peshawar from 1992-1995, she developed teacher training curricula and increased the number of girls attending school from 3 to 15 thousand in 1 year. She worked on the UN Rehabilitation Plan for Afghanistan and is founder & President of the Afghan Institute of Learning.
