Mission

Association Pengdwendé was created in 1993 and has been recognized as an NGO since 2002. The association is based in the capital and supports the self-development of more than 60 grassroot community groups in 5 provinces. The main focus of their work is awareness raising, training, organization, support to income generating and environmental protection activities, as well as the promotion of the rights of young girls and women.

Programs

The education program concerns: 2 primary schools built in Moukan and Kamsé, literacy centers, literacy campaigns in 1997-1998-1999, and patronage of schools. The other main activities are: woman's theatre company, civil state identity card for women, shea butter production unit, soap production unit, micro- credits for small businesses, several market gardening, grain mills, condoms marketing project, maternity hospital built in Kamsé, and public awareness campaigns about HIV/AIDS and hygiene.

Personnel Overview

Georgette Koala - President
Has devoted most of her life to improving the living conditions of rural women in Burkina Faso. Has been active in improving village infrastructures and schools and education campaigns about health and related issues. Since 1993, has worked with rural women’s groups across Burkina Faso. Member of the National Committee Against Poverty. Ashoka Fellow. Patron of 45 schools in the Bulkiemdié area.
