Mission

Global Village Engineers is a corps of volunteer civil and environmental engineers who work with rural communities and non governmental organizations in the developing world. Communities often have the greatest stake in the success of engineered infrastructure and are also fully responsible for maintaining it. GVE empowers through education and training to demystify infrastructure and environmental issues in order for marginalized communities to become effective advocates on their own behalf.

Personnel Overview

Burton A. Segall, P.E. - Volunteer
Dr. Segall is a professor emeritus from the Univ. of Massachusetts, Lowell. He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from New York University; Master's degrees in Public Health and Sanitary Engineering from the Univ. of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; and a BS in Civil Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. He also served as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in Tanzania, East Africa.

Sylvia Lee - Volunteer
A graduate of McGill University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Ms. Lee has worked as a civil engineer in Boston since 1999. Her diverse technical background includes planning rural water supply systems, hydraulic modeling, stormwater management, and master planning.

Sarah M. Cunningham, P.E. - Director and Co-Founder
Ms. Cunningham, a co-founder of GVE, is a registered professional engineer in Massachusetts and has 10 years of experience in engineering design and construction in the U.S. She holds a BS in Civil Engineering from the Univ. of Massachusetts-Amherst and will complete MBA studies at Northeastern Univ. in Sept 2003.
