Mission

Our mission is build capacity to diagnose and treat lead poisoning, to encourage the safer use of lead, and to promote lead poisoning prevention.

Programs

• Since 1997 research and survey in the area of lead poisoning; • Played an important key role in implementing unleaded gasoline in India; • Recognised as the centre of excellence by the Quality Council of India; • Has taken up large number of Lead Poisoning prevention awareness programs; • Educating lead based industrial workers on a continual basis; • Is a National referral centre for providing inputs to both industries and health care providers on the health effects of lead at work place.

Personnel Overview

Mr. Perry Gottesfeld - Executive Director
Perry Gottesfeld, Executive Director of OK International, was previously an entrepreneur in the for-profit sector. In the 1980s, he recognized the need to address lead poisoning in the U.S. and had the vision to start an environmental consulting firm with this focus. In 1999, he founded OK International to address threats to environmental health in the developing world.

Dr. Vijaya Lakshmi - Manager
Dr. Vijaya Lakshmi is the Manager for the Environmental Systems Branch of Development Alternatives. She holds a Doctorate in Organic Chemistry and is an approved environmental auditor. In her capacity with Development Alternatives she is responsible for planning, management and business development and has experience in auditing Environmental Management Systems (EMS) for multinational companies.

Dr. Thuppil Venkatesh - Executive Director
Dr. Thuppil Venkatesh is the Executive Director of the National Referral Centre for Lead Poisoning in India. In this capacity, he directed the "Project Lead Free," with support from the George Foundation to provide the first comprehensive characterization of the extent of lead poisoning in India.
