Mission

Fonkoze's mission is to build the economic foundations for democracy in Haiti through microcredit and literacy programs.

Programs

1) Literacy and Life Skills Education Program, 2) Solidarity Lending microcredit loans, 3) Business Development program, 4) Chemen Lavi Miyo (Path to a Better Life) reaching out to the poorest of the poor, 5) Currency exchange and money transfer services.

Personnel Overview

Mr. Steve Werlin - Director of Education
Mr. Werlin joined Fonkoze in 2005, taking a leave from Shimer College in Chicago, where he is a Professor of Liberal Arts. His involvement in alternative education started in 1985, when he joined the founderss of Touchstone Discussions Project. Mr. Werlin later joined the University of Alabama on a project to promote discussion-based education in rural middle and high schools.
