Mission

The mandate of the society is to work collaboratively with individuals, community and the government to establish ongoing services and programs that address the root causes of violence against women and their dependent children. We believe that with support, information and counseling, women may choose to live violence-free lives.

Programs

Programs at Qimaavik are offered in Inuktitut and English and include: •Crisis intake and risk assessment •Referral and assistance with RCMP and legal issues •Safety Planning & Risk Reduction •Suicide Intervention •Peer Counseling •Referrals to other helping agencies •Daily house meeting with clients & staff to resolve internal conflicts, establish house rules, foster communication and plan the daily activities •Literacy education and support

Debbie Paquette - Executive Director
Debbie has a decade of experience managing community based organizations, and 16 years as a frontline counselor/advocate responding to issues of poverty, family violence, addictions and discrimination. She believes in community development from a collaborative approach, social justice and equality, and values diversity. Debbie dreams of a world where women, children and difference are valued.
