Mission

The Pitcairn Islands Study Center's mission is to provide support to Pitcairn Island, South Pacific Ocean, and to provide information about it world-wide to researchers, journalists, scholars, students, authors and others who have an interest in Pitcairn Island and in "The Bounty Saga," which includes H.M.S. Bounty/William Bligh/Pitcairn Island/Norfolk Island. The Study Center is a not-for-profit charitable organization.

Programs

The Study Center maintains a web site – http://library.puc.edu/pitcairn/ - of much information about Pitcairn Island and The Bounty Saga. It maintains a research library of some 1,200 books, thousands of pages of articles, correspondence, manuscripts, monographs; a video, photograph and color slide collection; a large philatelic collection of Pitcairn stamps; ship models relating to Pitcairn and H.M.S. Bounty, and many artifacts about the subjects of its interest.

Personnel Overview

Herbert Ford - Communications Person
Mr. Ford directs the Pitcairn Islands Study Center which is in contact with Pitcairn several times each week. He will receive regular, frequent reports on progress of the project that will be available by telephone, e-mail, or on the Center’s web site to those interested. Direct contact with Pitcairn is usually very difficult so this U.S. contact will be helpful.

Jay Calvin Warren - Project Manager
As mayor of Pitcairn Island Mr. Warren will serve as on-site director of the boat shed construction project. He is the top governmental official on the island, and has the respect of all Pitcairners due to his leadership in many island activities.

Mike Warren - Second Project Manager
Mike Warren serves as chairman of the Pitcairn Island Council, the on-island governing body, and is in charge of handling electronic equipment for Pitcairn, which includes satellite, weather and earthquake-monitoring equipment. The name Warren is associated with the descendants of the mutineers on H.M.S. Bounty since the mid-1800s. He is one of the most respected men on remote Pitcairn Island.
