More Information About this ProjectProject Needs and BeneficiariesOn December 26, 2004 Southeast Asia experienced an undersea earthquake and resulting tsunamis that devastated shores with waves of up to 50 feet (15 m) high. The tsunamis were among the deadliest disasters in modern history; at least 150,000 people are known to have died as a result and the count is still taking place. Thousands of people in Sri Lanka were left homeless, jobless or orphaned. ActivitiesThis project will purchase 2 concrete brick making machines; a saw mill that was destroyed; a coconut oil extraction plant; one catamaran fishing boat; and purchase 1500 trees and pay for labor to plant them in a re-vegetation project; Funding InformationTotal Funding Received to Date: $14,200 Funding InformationThis project is now in implementation and no longer available for funding. Received funds will be used to accomplish concrete objectives as indicated in the project's "Activities" section. Updates will be posted under the "Progress Report" tab as they become available.
