Afghan Radio and Outreach project Update

By Alex Bernstein - Development Associate, August 15, 2007 10:13 PM

Making significant progress over the past several months in Afghanistan we improved outreach to rural women strengthening the key messages highlighted in our radio drama and hired a Women’s Programming Manager to establish and train women’s facilitated listening groups. In just five weeks, we established nine women’s outreach groups with 267 women in Bamiyan, Kabul, Kapisa and Panjshir. In addition, we expanded the broadcasting network for our original human rights and Voices from the Field drama series to include a partnership with 22 local FM stations across Afghanistan, ensuring our drama series is broadcast to urban and surrounding semi-urban populations.

“There are changes in the village after the training. We learned about human rights and about the rights of women.”
