More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

The radio broadcasts of Learning While Playing inspire parents and communities to create positive environments for children under the age of 6. A contribution to this project will deliver a satellite radio receiver to a community that has only irregular access to radio and other sources of information. Furthermore, your support trains parents and creates radio programs that advocate early childhood development awareness that helps Nepalese youth make the most of every learning opportunity.

Activities

When learning resembles playing with interactive riddles and rhymes, children are more likely to discover an early enthusiasm for education. Episodes also involve parents by discussing topics such as safe motherhood, nutrition and immunization.

Learning While Playing Update

By Julia Westhoff - Executive Assistant, Equal Access, October 02, 2007 05:56 PM

From its inception in 2004, Learning While Playing has provided rural Nepali children and families with crucial information on Early Childhood Development (ECD). Learning While Playing discusses important issues such as proper nutrition, school readiness, health check-ups, proper infant care and the importance of parental involvement.

A 2006 questionnaire found that 60 percent of listeners believed the program helped their understanding of the importance of ECD and increased their knowledge of proper child rearing and healthy livelihoods. Because of our integrated feed-back loop the themes on the show adapt to meet the needs of local communities.

Support for Learning While Playing ensures that rural parents and children across Nepal have access to the important tools for happy, healthy childhoods.
