Share & SaveMore Information About this ProjectProject Needs and BeneficiariesThe project benefits 300 families who make their living from recycling. It indirectly benefits 400,000 inhabitants of Pucallpa who will live in a healthier city. Currently, about 320 tons of waste are disposed of daily into an open dump in the center of the city. As a result, Ucayali River and Yarinacocha Lake are increasingly polluted. Both are used by many families to fish and launder clothes, and the families suffer from parasitism, diarrhea, and typhus, among other diseases. ActivitiesCreate an association of micro-enterprises in charge of collecting waste material from homes/companies and transporting to a recycling collection center. Build/operate a plant for treating organic waste to obtain natural fertilizers.
