More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

The tsunami destroyed numerous villages and displaced thousands of people. This project will benefit more than 380 internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Banda Aceh and neighboring villages of Kajhu who have found refuge in the Bakoy village and Sukadamai, on higher ground 5 miles to the south of the desolated areas. These families, now in temporary housing, need assistance to rebuild their lives. More than 60% of these IDPs are female.

Activities

The Sukadamai and Bakoy communities and Puspem have identified a program of micro-enterprise self-help activities, such as: learning embroidery, raising chickens, printing, electronic services, photography and journalism.
