Low-Cost Rural Primary Schools, Northern Nigeria
More Information About this ProjectProject Needs and BeneficiariesUSAID states that 60% of eligible children are enrolled in primary schools. The 1991 Census showed that in northern Nigeria only 21% of 6- to 9-year-olds were literate. UNICEF statistics show that of 3.2 million children not in school, 67% are girls. This constitutes the largest population of out-of-school girls in sub-Saharan Africa. Children are browsing the streets daily, hawking, begging and combing in garbage. We will deliver 100 new rural turn-key schools for more than 400 kids each year. ActivitiesEach schoolhouse will cost $12,000, or 40 donations of $300 each. These funds will pay to manufacture, erect and outfit the school, purchase supplies and books, hire the teacher(s) and arrange uniforms and lunches Funding InformationThis project has been retired and is no longer accepting donations. Additional DocumentationThis project has provided additional documentation in a Microsoft Word file (projdoc.doc).
