Inner-City Community Keeps Its Youth in Sports
More Information About this ProjectProject Needs and BeneficiariesAll but the poor and shanty-dwellers have abandoned living in the inner city. It is difficult for these families to keep their children and youths off the street. There are municipal community centers, but their leisure and gym facilities are poor and deteriorated. This cannot attract younger or older kids. We make these centers attractive by giving socially recognized healthy alternatives to living in violence in the streets. Kids, youth and the community are the beneficiaries. ActivitiesThe sports that exist at these centers are body-building and amateur wrestling. There is also a classroom. Our activities are (1) community “meets” and (2) rewards to encourage participants of classes at the center. Funding InformationThis project has been retired and is no longer accepting donations. Additional DocumentationThis project has provided additional documentation in a Microsoft Word file (projdoc.doc). Why this Project is ImportantPotential Long Term ImpactThe youths and kids in the target area spend much of their leisure time in the centers and the classes and sports. Working and older people spend more time in family- and neighbor-contact at the centers. The city becomes safer. Project Message
“My son was very difficult. He played on the school roof, jumped off the third floor, followed older boys. After he started Wrestling at the center he has become my model for the young ones!” Who is Running This ProjectContact
