More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Access to healthcare clinics is often very limited for those in rural areas, so mobile teams take the services to the people. There is a need for additional mobile testing & counseling teams for the areas surrounding the AIDS vaccine trial sites in Entebbe, Uganda. One team can provide HIV testing and counseling (VCT) to over 50 clients a day. Access to these services helps control the spread of the disease and often results in willing volunteers for AIDS vaccine trials.

Activities

Outreach teams offer HIV testing and counseling; health talks on HIV/AIDS issues of prevention; care and treatment.

Why this Project is Important

Potential Long Term Impact

Providing HIV Voluntary Counseling and Testing services will improve the long-term health of the community. It will also help to accelerate the timeline for the discovery of an AIDS vaccine by enhancing the ability of the site to conduct trials.

Project Message

Mobile voluntary counseling and testing is the way to go because many people are unable to travel to the clinic to get tested.
- Ms. Nambi Helen, VCT supervisor
