Alternative Livelihood for Women Mine Workers
More Information About this ProjectProject Needs and BeneficiariesThe sandstone and marble mines are the primary source of livelihood in Rajasthan. While the mines are a source of income, the conditions for workers is one of harsh toil, ill health and debt. The situation is more severe for women as they are subjected to physical and mental harassment, denied fair wages, accorded little privacy and overworked both in the mines and at home. This in turn adversely impacts families. The project will address the needs of women working in the mines. ActivitiesThe project is to organize 100 women into self-help groups to provide a support group, help save money and take credit.
