Prevent Disease: Vaccinate and Train Rural Malians Photo Gallery
Mother and daughter vaccinated!
In 2004, the Alliance increased the number of vaccinations from 5,000 to more than 7,000. The Alliance is planning to provide as many vaccinations again this year to protect children and mothers from diseases.
Standing in line to become immunized
Women know the importance of preventing disease for themselves and their families. They line up for hours to become immunized.

Q: Why do you vaccinate your children?
A: "To prevent disease… I see a big difference in the children that are and are not vaccinated. I want my children to grow fast and healthy.”
Midwives gather for training
The Alliance trains 24 midwives and 24 health agents. Midwives are taught how to properly and safely deliver and care for a baby. Health agents learn how to address health concerns in their villages including AIDS, sanitation and wound care.

“I’ve been delivering babies for more than 15 years. We enjoy our work. Before we had training, a lot more women and children died.”
