Project Needs and Beneficiaries
India is one of the countries most prone to disasters, both man-made and natural. However, it lacks a centralized disaster-mitigation effort. Moreover, schemes to deal with disasters often are not productive and do not take local perspectives into account. AIDMI is helping the poor in disaster-prone areas to create secure mechanisms and institutions as part of a comprehensive approach to disaster preparedness and quick recovery.
Activities
Is providing a) livelihood relief, b) shelter repairing support, c) local capacity building, d) school safety initiative, e) micro credit support & f) micro insurance. AIDMI does these activities through coordination with govt. dept., & local CBOs.

Potential Long Term Impact
Schools and shelters would become safer against disasters. Microcredit activity will help accelerate the recovery of self-employed women and micro insurance activity will protect the beneficiaries or cover their risks in case of future disasters.
Project Message
Mainstreaming mitigation is not easy; everyone loves immediate relief. But in the long run, mitigation is worth it.
