More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Half the people in Nepal live in abject poverty and Mustang has extremely fragile eco-systems. Harvesting and making products from Seabuckthorn, with its miraculous medicinal and cosmetic properties, create new livelihoods for poor people-- local women in cooperatives from 10 villages, nun novices, young monks and local Tibetan doctors. The program safeguards traditional knowledge of medicinal plants and the soil-fixing properties of Seabuckthorn roots help protect fragile environments.

Activities

Training 10 villages in Mustang to establish nurseries and harvest wild Seabuckthorn sustainably. Equipping them to produce juice and tea and process Seabuckthorn oil. Providing access to markets nationally and internationally.
