Mission

Initiating and pursuing socio-economical development projects cooperatively with local people in the Himalayan region. The activities cover the field of education and health care promotion as well as cultural and natural heritage protection with emphasis on traditional cultures that are under threat and environment protection. In particular HimalAsia tries to promote income generating measures for women.

Programs

Supporting sustainable livelihoods; schools and manual training centres; restoring heritage sites; childen's daycare centres and preschools; orphanage houses in supportive surroundings; houses for old people; health centres.

Personnel Overview

Dr. Susanne von der Heide - Director of the HimalAsia Foundation, Nepal
Studied Cultural Anthropology, History of Art, Sociology in Berlin and Freiburg, Germany. After dissertation curator for education at Museum for East Asian Art,Cologne, Germany. In 1996 coordinator for quality control at UNESCO, Paris, World Heritage Centre and then for Division of Cultural Heritage. Since 2000 working as director of HimalAsia Foundation.

Dr. Meena Rajbhandari - Assistant for Natural Heritage Projects
Studied Chemistry and Biology at the Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu and afterwards Pharmaceutical Biology in Germany, Greifswald University with a DAAD scholarship and finished her dissertation in Greifswald. Was working afterwards as a laboratory assistant at the Research Institute for Applied Sciences at the Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu. Joined HimalAsia Foundation in 2002.
