More Information About this Project
Project Needs and Beneficiaries
Access to current and reliable health information is impeded in Africa due to poor infrastructures and the high costs of Internet access, medical textbooks, and journal subscriptions. By supplying students at Makerere University School of Medicine with handheld computers, also known as PDAs, we are providing them with reference tools and drug databases that may be used during their studies and when treating patients in areas with no other access to lifesaving information.
Activities
SATELLIFE will ship 700 donated PDAs loaded with reliable, relevant, and useful medical software with the goal of providing every medical student graduating from Makerere University with a working device.

Why this Project is Important
Potential Long Term Impact
As practicing physicians, the PDA recipients will use their devices to access patient records, drug databases, treatment guidelines, medical dictionaries, and continuing education materials without leaving their patients for extended periods of time.
Project Message

Latest Update from the Field
Update from Uganda
By Andrew Sideman - Director of Development, August 10, 2007 05:06 PM
The donations of PDAs to Ugandan medical students continues. We are asking for support to refurbish the PDAs, purchase and install a medical dictionary, and ship them to Uganda. The Makerere University Faculty of Medicine hopes that all medical students will have these tools. So far, through the generosity of donors, AED-SATELLIFE has provided Ugandan doctors in training with over 2,000 PDAs.
Thanks for your support!
