More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

CHI’s project partner, the Afghan Institute of Learning (AIL), has been providing health and education to Afghan refugees in Pakistan since 1995. AIL has been responding to the needs of earthquake survivors in Northern Pakistan, hardest hit by the earthquake and home to Pakistanis as well as Afghan refugees. Many Afghans moved to Peshawar and are now studying in AIL Centers. AIL Pakistan has delivered emergency supplies and is now supporting education to survivors.

Our earthquake relief program, through emergency supplies, has alleviated the profound and widespread human suffering that had resulted from this natural disaster. Our ongoing educational program is helping the survivors rebuild their lives.

Update of AIL’s Earthquake Project in Pakistan—August 2007

In April 2007, the Afghan Institute of Learning (AIL) made a delivery of floor coverings to various communities in the earthquake areas. In Peshawar, displaced earthquake survivors continue to study in AIL schools and Women’s Learning Centers. There were 385 women studying literacy and skills classes in the centers and 146 students in various grades in the schools.
