School children in Mprumem and surrounding villages will benefit from a library being built under the auspices of the Globalgiving. Progress Report

By Anthony Ephirim-Donkor, Ph.D. - Project leader, August 04, 2008 06:05 PM

Last January I donated an acre of land for the construction of the library project in Gomoa Mprumem. The land is a few meters from the main high way to Accra and on the border of Mprumem and Otsewo-Jukwa in the Central Region of Ghana. The land has been cleared of shrubs (see picture), graded, and ready for work to begin.

Since my wife and I returned last January from Ghana, I have been remitting funds as I promptly receive them from GlobalGiving to Elton Wallace in order for him to purchase construction materials. At the moment we have purchased one wheelbarrow and about 2000 cement blocks out of a total of 6000 needed. My hope is to gather enough materials together before commencing formal work next January during Mprumem’s annual Akwambo Festival scheduled on December 31, 2007 to January 7, 2008.

Upon my return next January, I will provide another progress report. In the meantime if you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at aephirim@binghamton.edu.

Best,

Anthony Ephirim-Donkor, Ph.D.
