More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Normally rural students don’t even have a pencil or notebook, a bag, school uniform, shoes, table and chair are a distant dream while resources are in abundance in urban schools where students are ignorant of the realities of their rural counterparts. This recycling, environment-friendly effort sensitizes and motivates urban students to donate their re-useable school material. The project acts as the carrot to get village children to school and enhance their learning.

Activities

• Forums and awareness building in urban schools to highlight realities of rural life • Forum to bring together rural and urban children to bring a sense of equality among these two groups. • Activity centers in village schools created

Why this Project is Important

Potential Long Term Impact

Urban children will have more empathy and compassion towards rural children and their issues. The reuse of a vast quantity of material, which would otherwise only raise the piles of dumping grounds, will help sustain a better environment.

Project Message

The concept is simple yet has the potential to influence education trends. Without burdening urban schools, children or parents, it offers a unique win-win solution for the donor and the beneficiary.

Latest Update from the Field

Update on School to School program

By Anshu Gupta - Project Leader, March 20, 2007 02:21 PM

Update on S2S program from the GOONJ newsletter:

* Urban Schools Meet: Giving a stronger driving force to S2S programme, GOONJ organized a meeting of its urban partner schools, on 29th January. The informal open forum design of the meeting facilitated a lot of discussions and sharing of ideas among the school representatives and GOONJ.

* PRATIBIMB 2007: Preparations for this annual S2S event (rural –urban school children interface) are in full swing. Kids from the villages all over the country will be with us in Delhi for 5 days. It is a unique opportunity to learn about their extraordinary courage against immense adversity.
