Update on Health Camp in India

By Pramila Balasundaram - Founder-Director of Samadhan, July 24, 2007 05:47 PM

HEALTH CAMP.

Following the puppet show of 08 February 2007, a Health Camp was planned for 21st April 2007 preceded by a puppet show. The experience of the previous puppet show dictated that we follow up the show immediately with a health camp to benefit from the sensitization created and motivate interested women to become more participatory. The puppet show used the same script, as before. The target community this time was Mahavir Enclave. The camp was conducted in a DDA park and tents were erected for this purpose with a separate enclosure for the doctors.

The main goal was to conduct an initial screening and diagnosis for all people wanting professional help, whether disabled or non-disabled. This decision was taken dictated by the realization that segregating the disabled and providing specialized services did not involve the majority of the community. So all people with medical needs were seen but the focus remained on the disabled who were referred for further inputs in the center.

Dr Bhatia, our pediatrician and head of the Rehabilitation Services was assisted by Sarojini, the community worker, Ved Prakash the Field Coordinator, and Padmavati the Senior Coordinator.
