Coptic Orphans

Mission

Coptic Orphans is an award-winning international Christian development organization that unlocks the God-given potential of disadvantaged children in Egypt, and so equips them to break the cycle of poverty and become change-makers in their communities. Coptic Orphans works through grassroots partner and volunteer networks to strengthen local communities for sustainable impact. Since 1988, Coptic Orphans has equipped over 14,000 children throughout Egypt.

Programs

In our flagship program, Not Alone, we equip children who have lost a father in their own homes and families through a network of over 250 volunteer Reps from each child’s local community. In the Valuable Girl Project, we build self-esteem in girls at risk of dropping out of school in order to promote academic retention and access to civil and social rights through mentoring between “little sisters” in primary school and “big sisters” in secondary school and university.

Personnel Overview

Phoebe Farag - International Program Director
She created the Valuable Girl Project (VGP) and has been responsible for the research, design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and grant management of VGP for Coptic Orphans since January 2002. She is also responsible for program design, content and evaluation of other Coptic Orphans programs and the expansion of Coptic Orphans’ work to the Sudan.

Neven Moawad Farag - Area Program Manager-Lower Egypt
Neven is Coptic Orphans’ longest standing staff member in Egypt, working with us since 2001. She is the interim program associate for VGP, responsible for the coordination of all technical aspects of the program, including training, monitoring, and evaluation. She is also the area program manager for the Lower Egypt region.
