More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Little Kids Rock operates in schools having no music education or in schools in which the music teacher wishes to rejuvenate the music curriculum. We serve public schools where 50% or more of the students qualify for the free or reduced-price lunch program. We awaken the creativity that supports learning and self-discipline in academically, socially and economically at-risk students through music. Students gain a strong sense of accomplishment and self-worth as they develop their musical skills.

Activities

Public school teachers are supplied with musical instruments, equipped with curricula, and trained to use our methods to teach music in their schools. Students learn to play instruments at an accelerated pace, and compose and perform original songs.

Why this Project is Important

Potential Long Term Impact

LKR puts music education back in public schools so all children have the opportunity to enrich their lives through music. Children who participate in music instruction develop skill-sets that prepare them for higher education and adulthood.

Project Message

“Helping students build self-esteem and creative expression have always presented great challenges to educators. LKR provides a major vehicle. The [behavioral] changes in my students are amazing.”
- Valerie Haskell, Teacher, Lawton Elementary School, San Francisco

Special Help for Little Kids Rock

By Isa Greenberg - Office Manager, December 20, 2007 06:47 PM

What if we told you that by making an additional donation of just $10 or more you could help Little Kids Rock win an additional FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS to serve more kids? We are participating in a challenge grant that we think we can win. The Case Foundation is giving prizes of $50,000 to the four nonprofits who get the most unique donations through an online widget. Here is a link to our widget (also below): http://givingchallenge.globalgiving.com/dy/registry/ag.html?regid=671&cmd=prevfund

Please consider making another gift to help us win! Also, it would really help us if you would consider doing any of the following:
1.   Email this link to your friends, family or social network
2.   Get a widget for your blog profile or website
3.   Share or save a link to this fundraiser on social networking sites.

You can get directions on how to do all of this by clicking on the link mentioned above.

Thank you for helping us put music back where it belongsĀ…in our schools!
