The Benefits of Clean Water
World Neighbors recently helped install a water system for Syaprung village in the Kalimpong district of India. Construction required twenty-four days of hard work. At least one person from each household in Syaprung village contributed his or her efforts every day. Villagers carried pipes, fittings and cement up steep terrain and dug a trench that accommodated over 4,000 feet of pipe. A reservoir tank and five water taps have made the system reliable and accessible.

Carrying Water
Girls and women have the primary responsibility to collect and carry water. This is a time-consuming and sometimes a dangerous activity. Providing a water system in their community allows them time for education, taking care of their families and income generating activities.
