Mission

Gravis assists the peoples of the Thar Desert in rural development and environmental conservation, focuses on sustainable development programs for alternative rural reconstruction and also mobilizes emergency relief in times of crisis. Gravis works directly on social rehabilitation rather than through economic assistance in order to create self-reliant village communities. Gravis concentrates on propagating the concept of Gram Swarajya in Thar.

Programs

GRAVIS takes a Gandhian approach to rural development, working with the poor of the desert to enable them to help themselves. Their goal is to promote self-reliance to improve the social, economic and political future of the desert communities. GRAVIS has worked on village development programs like rain water harvesting structures, seed banks to promote indigenous varieties of seeds, school and sanitary construction, reforestation, and working for the rights of mineworkers in Rajasthan.
