Bao Tou Eye Hospital

78-year-old village doctor
A 78-year-old lady with no formal ophthalmology training, does her best to offer affordable eye care services to villagers. She relies on basic instruments and eye drops to treat simple conditions. ORBIS will provide better focused training that will enhance the basic eye care knowledge and skills of village doctors and health workers.

Poor living standard in rural areas
Baotou has three rural counties with very small towns and villages. Living standards in rural areas are well below the poverty line. People are poor and can't afford to travel to the city for treatment and suffer needless blindness as a result. ORBIS will help to establish a network of 10 eye care stations in different towns/villages that can carry out vision testing, consultation, simple eye disease management and refer patients up.
