Project Needs and Beneficiaries

More than three million people in Colombia have been displaced from their homes due to ongoing internal armed conflict in the country. These families, who have little to begin with, are often forced to flee suddenly, leaving most of their possessions behind. They come to new cities, often falling into immediate poverty. With little or no money or assets, thousands of families every month struggle to start anew from scratch.

Activities

In addition to receiving kits that contain food, health and hygiene products and cooking utensils, families also receive psychosocial support, job placement and training, and other support to help generate income for their families.

Why this Project is Important

Potential Long Term Impact

Your gift of one kit can be the difference between life and death for a displaced family. The kits are distributed by CHF International, who has assisted over 500,000 internally displaced and vulnerable people over the last five years.

Project Message

In 2006 alone, CHF helped over 35,000 families who were displaced by violence. We need your help now to continue to help these vulnerable households get back their feet, and to rebuild their lives.
- Bryan Winston, Country Director, CHF/Colombia

Assistance provided to date

By Nussi - Program Officer, May 16, 2008 06:01 PM

More than 40 years of political violence and civil war have displaced hundreds of thousands of families in Colombia, making the country home to the world's second largest displaced population.

Through partnerships with the Colombian and U.S. governments, and continuing support from concerned individuals around the world, CHF has provided direct assistance to over 106,000 families since 2001, providing food, shelter and income-generating opportunities to help them not only cope but thrive in their new environments.

A brief look at some of the services provided to date:

> 49,200 humanitarian kits have been delivered to families
> 55,000 displaced families have received psychosocial support

> 11,930 school kits have been distributed for children

> 4,446 families have received assistance to improve their shelters or housing

> 46 classrooms and/or community facilities.
