Mission

Esquel was founded in 1990 as a vehicle to support democracy, social responsibility and sustainable socio-economic development in Ecuador. We strongly believe in the inter-connectedness of these factors, and each of our programs reflects this worldview. In addition, our work is based in the firm belief that change must come from beneficiaries themselves if it is to be sustainable. We currently work in four areas: Local Development, Social Responsibility, Democracy and Economic Development.

Programs

Promoting Intercultural Bilingual Education: strengthens the educational system in rural areas by promoting bilingual and cultural curriculum Migration and Co-Development: supports migrant workers and their families with communication centers and psychological and legal assistance PROREDES: improves education, cultural awareness and the sustainable tourism industry in various communities Citizen Security: improving security on the Ecuadorian-Colombian border
