Project Needs and Beneficiaries

While the goal is to increase market share of certified rugs to 7 percent, these figures have faces behind them. For every percentage point achieved, 750 children are rescued from the workplace and 1,000 more are saved from entering. In addition, the proceeds from the sale of Rugmark certified rugs supports rescued children enroll in schools, receive vocational training, and eventually, go on to job placement.

Activities

Through advertising, participation in trade and consumer events, and an online program, everyone who sets out to buy a handmade rug will know about the scourge of child labor and the Rugmark alternative.

Potential Long Term Impact

"The Most Beautiful Rug" three-year campaign will ensure the safety and education of 3,800 children and prevent the exploitation of 5,500 more. Ultimately, Rugmark believes it can end child labor on an industry-wide basis in the next decade.
