More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

The goal of "The Most Beautiful Rug" campaign is to increase market share of RugMark certified child-labor-free rugs from 1.5 to 7 percent by the end of 2009. For every percentage point achieved, 750 South Asian children are rescued from the workplace and 1,000 more are saved from entering. In addition, the proceeds from the sale of RugMark rugs enables rescued children to enroll in schools, receive vocational training, and eventually go on to job placement through RugMark-supported services.

Activities

RugMark will open consumers' eyes to the hidden world of child slavery through editorial, PSAs, events and online strategies, so that everyone who sets out to buy a handmade rug will know about the scourge of child labor and the RugMark alternative.
