Mission
SLI is dedicated to providing equal access to education to all students. We are working to provide educational equity for North Carolina's Latino students by giving them the tools and support to achieve academic and personal excellence.
Programs
Scholars' Latino Inititaive is a three-year mentoring program for Latino high school students in three North Carolina counties. Additionally, all students participate in an "early-college" academic class, college-prep workshop sessions, public service opportunities, and cultural enrichment activities. At UNC, a service-learning course facilitates additional volunteer particpate from UNC undergraduates.

Personnel Overview
Peter Iver Kaufman - Project coordinator
Received his MDiv from the Chicago Theological Seminar and his PhD in 1975 from the University of Chicago. He is an award-winning professor in the departments of History and Religious Studies, Faculty Coordinator of the University of North Carolina Scholars Program, and author of seven books, including Redeeming Politics (Princeton University Press).
Kristin, Lorelle and Lauren - UNC Undergraduate Leadership
Kristin Economo – Undergraduate Mentor Director. Kristin in a senior International Studies major from Durham, North Carolina.
Lorelle Babwah -- Associate Undergraduate Mentor Director. Lorelle is a senior Psychology major from Apex, North Carolina.
Lauren Teegarden – Undergraduate Director of Development. Lauren is a sophomore Latin American Studies major from Portland, Oregon.
Kevin Markle - Treasurer
Doctoral candidate at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill. He is a Chartered Accountant and served as Treasurer of The Canadian Merit Scholarship Foundation from 2000 to 2006 while teaching at the Schulich School of Business at York University.
