More Information About this Project
Project Needs and Beneficiaries
While most areas of India are today polio-free, a new outbreak centered in and around the Moradabad district, western Uttar Pradesh, is increasing the risk of further national and international spread of polio. Specific actions are being taken to urgently address the outbreak, including conducting large-scale polio immunization activities. To be successful, social mobilization tools are needed. These tools are provided by PolioPlus Partners.
Activities
COMMUNICATE when and where polio immunization activities will occur with advertisements, media and posters. IDENTIFY health workers and volunteers with caps and aprons. REWARD children and parents with incentives to encourage participation.

By Carrie Charles - Senior Coordinator, PolioPlus Partners program, February 06, 2008 09:42 AM
The first National Immunization Days (NIDs) of 2008 in India have been completed in all areas. Special focus was placed on supporting the activity in the defined high risk blocks of Bihar. For the first time, senior state and district officials traveled to access-compromised areas to support the campaigns there. High quality social mobilization activities are vital to the success of these immunization activities.
Project requests for funding are submitted in Indian Rupee (INR). Due to fluctuating exchange rates, there is a revised budget. In addition, UNICEF & the Government of India have recently sponsored the polio eradication messages of the celebrities in the electronic and print media. The request for media has been deleted from the project budget.
