Open Sewers in Nkokonjeru

One of the issues that RASD wants to address are the many sanitation issues of in the urban areas of Nkokonjeru, including as shown in this photo, public latrines that drain into the streets.

All within 10 feet

Along the shores of Lake Victoria, villagers wash clothes, bathe, fish, and have makeshift latrines drain into the same 10 feet of water front.

Trash Dump in Town

While Nkokonjeru Town council is expanding, the trash is as well and currently the biodegradables are not sorted from the plastic. RASD hopes to address this.

Getting Water

Children often collect water from stagnant ponds and it is often used before receiving treatment of any kind.

Fixing the Well

RASD recognizes the value of technical training for applied skills in the village, such as this man who maintains a higher standard of living by knowing how to fix the village well.

Colored Clothes

The value of vocational training in sewing and clothing can be a valuable income source for families as well, such as for this woman who sold the clothing she made to other villagers, tourists who came by, and vendors going to Kampala.

Success Story

This woman, after going to four of the RASD seminars, invested her money in constructing an improved latrine with a hand-washing station, as well as a rainwater harvesting cistern on the other side of her house.
