More Information About this Project
Project Needs and Beneficiaries
30 years of civil wars, drought, desertification, floods across Sudan have displaced millions of people to squatter settlements with virtually unbearable conditions & unemployment often over 50% or $1 a day or less. Poorest of poor in 10 of these communities will get access to credit denied by commercial resources, plus training & technical assistance to begin their journey back. Loans for community-based, individually-owned, small businesses will help them & once repaid, benefit others.
Activities
NEF selects low-income communities/monitors; engages local leaders/residents for credit committees; provides training in basics--project selection, financing, credit provision, follow-up, reporting; rewards performance with more capital & training.
