More Information About this Project
Project Needs and Beneficiaries
In the U.S., childhood immunizations are routine and taken for granted. In Cambodia, rural children often die from preventable infection and disease. Cambodia's child mortality rate is among the world's highest. The Sharing Foundation (TSF) seeks funding to immunize 570 children in the rural village of Roteang, outside Phnom Penh. Government and NGO health programs rarely reach this village of 3,304 Cambodians. This project will protect village children from life-threatening illnesses.
Activities
Children will receive 3 Hep B shots and 3 DPT (under age 6) or TT (ages 6 - 18) shots. TSF staff and medical student volunteers will administer vaccines at three intervals, eight weeks apart, followed by needed booster shots six months later.

Why this Project is Important
Potential Long Term Impact
The goal of this project is to ensure that these village children grow up healthy and strong so that they can benefit from public education and become productive, contributing members of their community and Cambodian society.
Project Message
"
The poor of the poorest deliver their children at their cottages, so they do not have any knowledge about the immunization which helps the children born in hospitals."
- Chan Kim Leng (Elephant), The Sharing Foundation's In-country Director
