By Lisa Hicks - Board Member, February 29, 2008 04:51 PM
Through a variety of fundraising efforts, The Sharing Foundation was able to fully fund this now completed immunization effort for Roteang Village children. We are extremely grateful for the support of donors like yourselves who found us through Global Giving. Your contributions really matter to the children of Cambodia!
Information on future immunization efforts and other TSF initiatives can be found on our website: www.sharingfoundation.org. Again, thank you for your support of this initiative! We are grateful for your participation.
November 2007 update

Immunization Project Progress report
The Roteang Village children have nearly completed the immunizations outlined as part of this project. The first shots were given in March 2007, the second in May 2007, and the third in July 2007. These shots completed the Hep B series. A booster for DPT/DT in January will complete the initiative.
We are raising money to support this immunization effort via several channels, including Global Giving. To expedite getting the children immunized, The Sharing Foundation has paid for the immunization expenses and will reimburse its general operating account when the project funds are raised. We are hopeful that end-of-year donations and a potential grant award will cover the full costs of the effort.
Many, many thanks to the generous individuals who have helped us provide critical immunizations for Roteang village children. These shots can make the difference between life and death for these children.

Results of Hepatitis Screening
By Lisa Hicks - Board member, May 15, 2007 12:07 PM
The immunization program began in April 2007 with blood tests for 565 village children to screen them for Hepatitis B. The results indicated that five children are already infected with Hep B and cannot receive the vaccine; they are likely to go on to liver disease or death in young adulthood. Some may have gotten Hepatitis from their mothers at birth.
Another 65 children with the Hep B antibody have already been infected with Hep B and gotten over the disease with no apparent ill effect; they also do not need the vaccination. It is not possible to predict whether a child will withstand a Hep B infection or not, so these vaccinations are critical. Every year there are multiple deaths in Roteang village from Hepatitis B. Young girls who are vaccinated will be protected against the disease and will not be able to pass Hep B to their babies at birth.
