More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

In the pueblos jovenes, set up around Arequipa by migrants seeking work in the big city, secondary education is not really an option, thus chances of work are minimal. By bringing secondary education into these areas the future is considerably brighter for the children and their families.

Activities

We can ensure these communities get the same opportunities as everyone else by providing free schooling and vocational skills. With very small contributions from families and graduates, the school will then become sustainable.

Funding Information

Total Funding Received to Date: $820
Remaining Goal to be Funded: $100,660
Total Funding Goal: $101,480

Why this Project is Important

Potential Long Term Impact

Over the years this school will teach thousands. Because it will be run and funded by local communities in the future, it will also foster strong communities and ensure the indigenous populations are not swallowed up by development and ruralisation.

Project Message

These children deserve more, they don't have the opportunities to progress. Secondary education is key to fulfill there life's dreams.
- Ruth Atayupanqui Ramirez, Local Head Teacher

Following the devastating earthquake in Peru we have had a shift of focus for some of our funding, however we now have a number of standing orders set up that are already providing long term scholarships. With a push and looking at the overall success of our fundraising for Ecuador we hope to be able to provide for the secondary school that can change the lives of so many children.
