More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Children in remote rural areas in Honduras have little or no chance to attend secondary schools, which are only available in urban areas. By bringing secondary schools to the communities this problem is eradicated and the children receive further education.

Activities

Further education should not just be for those living in urban areas. This programme provides the same opportunities as everyone in rural areas. With very small contributions from families and graduates, the school will then become sustainable.

Funding Information

Total Funding Received to Date: $205
Remaining Goal to be Funded: $97,505

Why this Project is Important

Potential Long Term Impact

Over the years this school will teach thousands. Because it will be run and funded by local communities in the future, it will also foster strong communities and ensure the indigenous populations are not swallowed up by development and ruralisation.

Project Message

Living in a rural area immediately nullifies the children's ability to go to secondary school in the towns, due to the large distances, denying them an education
- Carolina Rodas, Local Teacher

Latest Update from the Field

Please help in Honduras

By Andy Woods-Ballard - Director of Operations, October 04, 2007 04:53 PM

GVI’s education program in Honduras is part of a multi national, multi faceted commitment across Latin America. A few of these programs are listed on GlobalGiving and with your help we can increase our commitment to include secondary education within these communities. Please give generously and imagine how it would be for you or your children if you did not have the opportunity for a proper childhood and an education.
