Sending Children to School in Remote Villages
Actions
Share & SaveMore Information About this ProjectProject Needs and BeneficiariesTwo-thirds of Nepal's population is illiterate; only 22% of the girls are literate. Schools in villages are grim with a high dropout rate. Schools don’t have sufficient teachers; the ones they have are poorly trained, and schools lack educational materials. School-aged children migrate to urban areas to work as domestic servants or laborers. NYOF provides scholarships to students because of poverty, to female students, to those from a low caste community, and those who are physically disabled. ActivitiesNYOF is changing the future. NYOF improves and builds schools, trains the teachers, provides education materials, and pays the scholarships for children who would otherwise not have the ability to attend school. NYOF caters to the most disadvantaged. Latest Update from the FieldUpdate on NYOF's Rural ScholarshipsBy Olga Murray - President and Founder, June 25, 2008 05:07 PM
Although 70% of Nepali children enroll in primary school, many of them drop out before the fifth grade. In the rural areas where we work, the dropout rate is very high. Often, a family simply can't afford the cost of the school uniform and school supplies, or even the very small school fee. Attachments: Comment on this update
