Mission
The mission of FBF is to promote good will, cross-cultural understanding and friendship between the people of the United States and Burkina Faso; to support grass-roots development projects in Burkina Faso; and to enrich lives of the citizens in both countries. Its Projects Committee serves as a vehicle to facilitate the organization’s support of development activities. The Committee evaluates proposals, selects projects, monitors activities, and informs members about project developments.
Programs
Promotes grass-root development and builds institutional capacity in support of Burkinabe-initiated initiatives that focus on primary and secondary school, leadership, micro-business enterprise, and cooperatives.

Personnel Overview
Suzanne Plopper - FBF Manager, NEEED Project
Suzanne worked in health education as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Burkina Faso and returned later to work with a rural water supply/primary healthcare project. For the past 23 years, she has worked as a consultant in reproductive and child health in 26 African countries, as well as in Eastern Europe and in the Middle East.
Kristie McComb - President, Friends of Burkina Faso
Kristie has her MPH in Global Health and works as a Health Specialist at the Peace Corps office in DC providing support to community health projects. She was a Community Health Development volunteer in Burkina Faso from 2001-03 and stayed on to work as a Technical Advisor for the Carter Center's Global 2000 Guinea worm eradication program.
Thomas L. Vollrath - FBF Project Committee Chair
Tom was a member of the first group of Peace Corps volunteers sent to Upper Volta in 1967. His affiliation with the local agricultural extension service instilled a deep commitment to development, leading to graduate training in agricultural economics. He is an economist with the Economic Research Service of USDA.
