Disaster Relief for Survivors of Hurricane Felix
More Information About this ProjectProject Needs and BeneficiariesHurricane Felix hit the North Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua, a geographically isolated region where tens of thousands of Indigenous Miskito people live without access to basic services. Prior to Hurricane Felix, many Miskitos were living in extreme poverty, subsisting on small-scale agriculture that barely met their basic needs. Without assistance, they will be unable to rebuild their communities after the destruction of their homes and crops. ActivitiesAs part of our Emergency and Disaster Relief Fund, MADRE is mobilizing funds to send to our Nicaraguan partner organizations, Wangki Tangni, CADPI, and CADAMUC. They will distribute supplies directly to those most devastated by Hurricane Felix. Latest Update from the FieldEfforts to rebuild in the wake of Hurricane FelixBy Vivian Stromberg - Executive Director, MADRE, January 25, 2008 03:20 PM
In the months since Hurricane Felix dealt its devastating blow to Nicaragua’s North Atlantic coast, the area’s women and families, most of them Indigenous Miskita peoples living well below the poverty line, are still picking up the pieces. The storm hit just days before the annual harvest, wiping out local food supplies and all but eliminating hope for income generation in seasons to come. Comment on this update
