More Information About this Project
Project Needs and Beneficiaries
In the poorest areas of Khartoum desperate Sudan refugee families fleeing violence & drought, particularly widows, elderly & orphans, get food covering a family of seven for two weeks of "iftar" meals, when the day's Ramadan fast is broken.
Activities
In cooperation with local Islamic "Zakat" (alms) committees, the most needy are identified & food packages are distributed, again with local people. Food packages each contain about $50 worth of basic foods like dairy products & protein-rich beans.

Why this Project is Important
Potential Long Term Impact
Participating in Ramadan & helping the poor at this particular time helps build a stronger sense of community and mutual responsibility as well as strengthens the bond between local people and those like NEF trying to lend a helping hand.
Project Message
"These people are really in need! One mother fainted, it was her first meal in 3 days! I am proud that NEF is the only non-Islamic, Western agency participating in the Ramadan food distribution."
- Mohamed Ali, NEF Sudan staff member
