More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

At present, teachers in rural Nepal lack proper training, resulting in poor education and corporal punishment. We propose to construct a training center in the heart of the Harpan Valley to benefit 7 valley schools: a centre that houses a model preschool (i.e.: larger classrooms; more and larger windows, a spacious playground); a health post; a workshop for creating education materials; a teachers' training hall; and office space for two NGOs dedicated to improving rural education in the region.

Activities

Model preschool environment for village children. Training facility for teachers. Educational materials to improve child-teacher relationships. Goal: stop corporal punishment in schools across the valley. $18k - $11k grant 12/07 = $7k now needed!

Funding Information

Total Funding Received to Date: $405

Why this Project is Important

Potential Long Term Impact

This Centre will improve the quality of preschool education for some 350 preschool children across the Harpan Valley every year. Corporal punishment will come to an end and this generation of Nepali children will break the chain of violence.

Project Message

A child is like a flower; it can only blossom if we give it the care and attention but also the space that it needs. A teacher should help the child develop the potential it already holds inside.
- René Voss, Project Coordinator
